MAY 1990 SCOTTISH REGIONS
In May 1990 all Scottish Regional Council seats were up for re-
election.
In the event, all four Scottish parties could claim satisfaction
on the night. The Labour Party retained control of Lothian, Fife,
Central and Strathclyde, and overall gained 10 seats on its 1986
performance. The Conservatives lost 7 seats, but saw their share
of the vote increase from around 17 to 19.5 percent. The Scottish
Nationalist Party also increased its share of the vote, and
gained 6 seats. For the Liberal Democrats, fearing a bad
performance, the loss of only 2 seats compared to the 1986
Alliance performance was a considerable relief.
